X, formerly known as Twitter, is currently working on a new feature that would display users’ pinned posts to their followers in a dedicated breakout display within the app. This feature aims to increase engagement by ensuring that followers see the best posts that users have pinned.
The new display, shared by X engineer Enrique Barragan, includes a side-scrolling update feed that shows pinned posts to followers in the “For You” listing. This new feature is a result of a suggestion made by X owner Elon Musk, who stated that the recommendation algorithm would prioritize showing followers pinned posts. However, there is a limit of one pinned post every ~48 hours per profile to prevent gaming the system.
Potential Impact of the New Feature
While the idea behind the new display feature is to increase visibility of pinned posts and boost engagement, there are doubts about its effectiveness in practice. Users would need to scroll through the side-scrolling unit to see pinned posts, which may not guarantee that all followers will view them. Additionally, not all users pin posts, and only a small percentage of X users actually post content on the platform.
For users who are actively posting on X and looking to increase their reach and traction, the new display feature could be a useful addition to their posting strategy. However, competition for space in the display units may be high, depending on how many profiles each follower follows. On the other hand, it could also lead to more visibility and reach for users with fewer followers.
While X’s new display feature for pinned posts has the potential to enhance engagement and reach for users, its effectiveness may vary depending on individual posting habits and follower interactions. It is recommended for users who are actively using X and seeking growth strategies to experiment with this new feature when it becomes available more broadly. The feature is currently in limited testing and will be rolled out to more users soon.
