Frostpunk 2, the chilly survival city builder, is set to launch on July 25th. However, eager players don’t have to wait until then to experience the frozen world of Frostpunk 2. A beta version of the game will be available later this month, from April 15th to the 22nd, for those who are willing to pre-order the digital deluxe edition.

The beta, starting on April 15th at 7pm CEST/1pm EDT/10am PDT, will feature a “part of the sandbox mode called the Utopia Builder Preview”, as announced by 11bit. It will be available in English and Simplified Chinese, offering players a glimpse of the gameplay before the full release. The focus in the beta will be on the game’s new mechanics, such as the Council Hall, where players can now pass laws and make decisions that impact the city’s overall equality and dynamics.

Unlike its predecessor, Frostpunk 2 shifts the focus from issues like heat, power, and starvation to emphasize tension and conflict with the humans under your leadership. Players will no longer have complete control, as the citizens now demand a say in how the city is governed and what rules are established. The introduction of democracy adds a new layer of complexity to the gameplay, challenging players to navigate political tensions within the city.

Investing in Early Access

To participate in the beta and explore the new features of Frostpunk 2, players are required to pre-order the digital deluxe edition. While this grants early access to the beta, it comes at a price of £56.69/$67.49/€67.49. This decision may be a significant investment for some players, especially considering the uncertainty of the game’s reception upon its official launch. Additionally, with the game being added to Game Pass on day one, players may opt to wait for its availability on the subscription service instead.

The Frostpunk 2 beta offers players a chance to immerse themselves in the game’s evolving world before its official release. With new gameplay mechanics and a focus on social survival, Frostpunk 2 promises an engaging and challenging experience for players who are willing to brave the frozen wasteland once again.
