Vigor, a free-to-play survival shooter, has been a popular game on consoles for over half a decade. Set in the Scandi-pocalypse of a ruined Norway in an alternate nineties, the game features a wasteland world filled with roving groups of survivors known as Outlanders. Players can choose to go solo, team up with a friend, or form a larger group to compete against other wastelanders in various modes such as Shootout deathmatches, team Elimination battles, and Loot Events. By succeeding in these encounters, players can gather resources to upgrade their shelter, craft better weapons, and collect more materials in a classic survival-crafting loop.

The Surprising Lack of a PC Release

Despite its success on consoles, Bohemia Interactive, the developers of Vigor, initially chose to exclude PC gamers from experiencing the game. For over six years, PC players were left in the dark with no indication of a potential release. However, this exclusion is finally coming to an end as Vigor is set to launch on Steam next month, entering early access. This decision marks a significant shift for the developers, who have recognized the demand from PC players for the game.

In order to participate in the early access phase of Vigor on PC, players will need to purchase a Reinforcements Pack priced at $20. This pack offers early access to the game, along with bonus weapons, exclusive titles and uniforms, cosmetics, consumable items, and other in-game rewards. The early access period is anticipated to last approximately three months, during which player progress will be reset once the game reaches its official 1.0 release. Despite this reset, players will retain any items or upgrades acquired through paid means.

The Importance of Early Access

Bohemia Interactive has emphasized the significance of receiving early feedback from players to enhance and refine the game before its full release. The adaptation of Vigor from consoles to PC has presented notable challenges for the developers, prompting the decision to undergo an early access phase. This approach allows the team to address any issues or concerns raised by the community, ensuring a more polished and enjoyable gaming experience upon the official release of the free-to-play version.

One of the most awaited features of the PC version of Vigor is a significant overhaul to the game’s gunplay mechanics. This update will be thoroughly tested during the early access phase, providing players with the opportunity to provide valuable feedback on the changes. Additionally, the PC version will introduce cross-play functionality, allowing players on different platforms to engage in combat together. The Steam release of Vigor is scheduled for May, with plans to transition to a full free-to-play model by the end of summer, provided all developments proceed as expected.

Overall, the arrival of Vigor on PC marks a significant milestone for both the game and its community of players. With new updates, improvements, and the promise of cross-play features, the PC version of Vigor is poised to offer a fresh and engaging experience for both veteran players and newcomers alike.
