Arkane Austin’s vampire shooter, Redfall, recently received its final update as the developers faced layoffs from their parent company, Microsoft. This update, known as Redfall game update 4, brings in some highly requested features such as an offline mode and single-player pausing. Additionally, players can expect new in-game progression features like the Community Standing bar, where Support currency can be used to unlock rewards from the Safehouse Skill tree, and Elder Nests, which are vampire nests housing specially modified vampire bosses.

The new Elder Nests in Redfall will be scattered throughout the game, much like Heart Nests, and can be identified by their purple glow. By defeating the boss vampire in these nests, players can earn a temporary Heart Shard buff that scales based on the game’s difficulty level. Moreover, the revamped Neighbourhood features bring six ranks of Community Standing, offering 39 permanent buffs to enhance the gameplay experience. From cosmetics visible on the map and compass to buffs like the Escape Plan, which activates a salvaged Bellwether cloak in critical health situations, players can expect a range of benefits from these new additions.

Microsoft announced that both Arkane Austin and Hi-Fi Rush developers, Tango Gameworks, would be closing on May 7th as part of a consolidation of their Bethesda studio teams. This move aims to allow deeper investments in the development of new games and IPs. While Arkane Austin has previously worked on the critically acclaimed title, Prey, Redfall fell short of expectations due to issues like bugs, lack of engaging activities, and minimal post-launch support during its initial release year.

Despite its shortcomings, Redfall showed promise with its captivating setting, visual direction, and moments of Arkane magic. The game managed to create a unique atmosphere, with impressive buildings, supernatural elements, and immersive interiors. The inclusion of offline support in the final update, amidst the layoffs at Arkane Austin, ensures that the game will remain playable even after Microsoft shuts down its servers. The hard work and dedication of the developers are evident, and their commitment to delivering an enjoyable experience for players is commendable.

As we bid farewell to Arkane Austin and their final update for Redfall, it’s important to acknowledge the efforts and passion put into the game. Despite the challenges faced by the developers, the legacy of Redfall and the talent of Arkane Austin’s team members will be remembered. Best wishes to all the survivors as they embark on new endeavors, and may their future projects be met with success and acclaim in the gaming industry.
